Giroud Salary Too High For French Suitors

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud could leave the club this summer when his current deal at Stamford Bridge expires.

The 32-year-old has few months left on the 18-month deal he penned when he became a Chelsea player in January 2018.

Olivier Giroud became a Chelsea player at the start of last year after the Blues paid £18m to sign him from London rivals Arsenal.

The French World Cup winner has had to be content with a backup role at the club since his transfer.

He was the deputy to Chelsea’s main striker Alvaro Morata before the Spaniard was replaced by Gonzalo Higuain.

Giroud has continued in his role as the deputy to the club’s main striker Higuain.

Alvaro Morata has been sent on loan to Spanish La Liga club Atletico Madrid.

Several French clubs are interested Olivier Giroud but they might find it difficult to sign him even on a free transfer.

According to French news outlet Le 10 Sport, French Ligue 1 giants Lyon and Marseille are keen on a free transfer move for Giroud at the end of his Chelsea contract this summer but his salary is too big for the two clubs.

French World Cup winner Giroud earns at least €3.5m per annum at Chelsea.
