Former Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis has explained why he had to part ways with the North London club to take the job with Italian giant, AC Milan.
Gazidis’ departure after 10 years at the club was officially announced by Arsenal in a statement on Twitter on Tuesday.
The South African-born businessman explained that ‘Change and succession’ is a necessity for a club like Arsenal to move forward.
He suggested that while it is applicable to all positions in the club, that of the CEO should not be different.
No wonder, Gazidis was fingered as one of those ensured that the 22 years reign of former manager, Arsene Wenger was brought to an end.
Although the Frenchman had tendered his resignation, reports reveal that he was compelled to do so by giving him the choice to either resign honourably or be sacked.
Gazidis also played a major role in convincing and ensuring the emergence of former PSG manager, Unai Emery as Arsenal manager.
The 54-year-old explained that it was a difficult decision for him to make but stated that he had to do it because it was time for him to leave.
Meanwhile, Raul Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham have been appointed to fill Gazidis’ gap as head of football and managing director respectively.
