The fear of losing one of its most prized assets has finally become a reality as Arsenal Chief executive leaves the club to join Italian side, AC Milan.
The 53-year-old has put an end to his 10 years spell at the club with his decision to move on after helping the North Lindon side appoint Unai Emery in May as Arsene Wenger’s successor as manager.
However, he is expected to take a king break and then resume his new role in Italy on 31 October.
Gazidis described the decision to quit his job with Arsenal as “the hardest of my life”.
“Change and succession is not only inevitable for a club like Arsenal – it is necessary,” he said.
Meanwhile, a quick change and reshuffle has been made with Raul Sanllehi, who was head of football relations at Arsenal being appointed the head of football, and Vinai Venkatesham, who was formerly chief commercial officer becoming the managing director.
Daily Telegraph had reported that Gazidis was lured with an offer that would see him earn an extra £1m-per-year on top of his £2.6m salary at Arsenal.
Efforts by Arsenal to have him stay failed. Although, the news of his exit will be a relief to the North London side who were not comfortable with the speculations as they feared it could distract the team.
