Former Liverpool forward Milan Baros has expressed his regrets on his decision to leave the Anfield giants for Midlands club Aston Villa in 2005.
Baros, who presently plays for Czech side Slovan Liberec, joined Liverpool in 2002 and went on to scored 19 goals in 68 appearances for the side with his highlight at the 18-time English champions coming in 2005 when he helped Liverpool earn a famous comeback against Italian giants AC Milan before they went on to lift the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title on penalties.
Following the title win in Istanbul, Milan Baros, who scored 5 goals to emerge as Euro 2004 topscorer, made his move to Aston Villa and even scored ten minutes into his debut against Blackburn Rovers however the appointment of Martin O’neill as manager changed things for the worse and he soon fell out-of-favour prompting him to leave the club for Portsmouth in January 2007 then Turkish giants Galatasaray before joining his current employers.
Looking back on his career in the English Premier League (EPL), the former Czech Republic striker confirmed his regrets as follows: “It seemed an easy decision at the time, but if I could go back to that moment now, I would choose to stay.”
“There are a lot of games in a season and I’d have got my chance again. Now I know it was a bad decision. I wish I had stayed and been patient.” he concluded.
