Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is not afraid of getting a last 16 UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash with defending champions Real Madrid when the draws are made on Monday.
The 67-year old made this known during his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s English Premier League (EPL) clash with Stoke City on Saturday evening. When asked about a potentially difficult draw in the UCL. In his words, he said: “You look at the teams we can get, some look more prestigious, more difficult, and you would like me to say ‘I don’t want this team or that team’ but that would put us already in an inferior position if it happens.”
“You can take Real Madrid, one of the favorites to win the competition, even against them we will have a chance of qualifying.
“Another inconvenient fact for us, we have not qualified for the last six years for the quarter-finals. That will be a huge challenge for my group and they will relish that.” he further added.
Arsenal booked their place in the last 16 of the UCL as the winner of Group A ahead of French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) but could possibly face holders competition favourites such as Real Madrid and German champions Bayern Munich after both sides finished 2nd in their respective groups.
