Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid have concluded plans to extend the loan contract of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic for another year.
This is according to the publication from popular English news outlet Daily Mirror which claimed that Chelsea could still have the chance to sign Croatian World Cup star Kovacic despite their transfer ban.
As it stands, Chelsea have been handed a two-window transfer ban by world football’s governing body FIFA after they were found guilty of violating rules relating to footballers under the age of 18.
Chelsea have already appealed the FIFA verdict but the outcome is yet to be determined.
The aforementioned publication from the Daily Mirror revealed that outgoing European champions Real Madrid are ready to offer Kovacic to Chelsea on loan for another year with the obligation to sign him at the end of the 2019/20 season.
Mateo Kovacic joined Chelsea on loan from Real Madrid at the start of this season as part of the deal that took Thibaut Courtois from Stamford Bridge to Real Madrid.
The Courtois transfer set Real Madrid back to the tune of £35m.
The Belgian international shot-stopper forced the move to Real Madrid with one year left on his then Chelsea deal.
He was the Real Madrid first choice goalkeeper until the reappointment of Zinedine Zidane as the club’s manager which has seen him drop to third choice behind Keylor Navas and Luka Zidane.
