Done Deal as Liverpool complete signing of another star player

Merseyside giant Liverpool have sealed the signing of England International Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from North London club Arsenal for a £40million transfer fee.

The versatile midfielder, who spent six seasons at the North London club, has signed a long-term deal at Anfield.

The Ox played 198 matches for Arsenal since joining from Southampton back in 2011 but made his intention to leave known by turning down several contract offers.

Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea look to be in pole position to sign the 24-year-old attacker after agreeing a transfer fee with the Gunners but the winger preferred a transfer to Liverpool.

Speaking to Liverpool website following his deadline day transfer Chamberlain said: ‘I’m currently away with England (National team), so I’m at St George’s Park (training camp).

‘Firstly, I’m (Oxlade-Chamberlain ) delighted to have signed (joined) for Liverpool and big thanks to everyone here at the FA that has made this possible, using the facilities. It has been a massive help.

‘I’m (Oxlade-Chamberlain) not going to say too much today; I’m (Oxlade-Chamberlain ) here with England, and we’ve got two big matches coming up, so I (Oxlade-Chamberlain) want to focus on them.’

A message on Gunner’s official website read: ‘We’d like to thank Alex (Oxlade-Chamberlain ) for his contribution to the club and wish him well for the future.’

The Ox becomes manager Jurgen Klopp’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Andy Robertson.

On his new signing, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: ‘He (Oxlade-Chamberlain ) may still be young but he has a lot of experience in the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and for the National team. Already he is a very good player and I (Klopp) think he has the mental strength and desire to be even better – and that excites me and the club.’
