Premier League Champions Chelsea have announced the signing of England international midfielder Danny Drinkwater from rivals Leicester City, with the midfielder signing a five-year contract.
Chelsea have finally signed the 2015/16 English Premier League champion in a transfer fee thought believed to be more than £30million.
The 27-year-old joined Leicester City from Premier League giants Manchester United back in 2012 and has since then enjoyed a staggering rise with the King Power Stadium, which got to its peak when they surprisingly won the premier league title under Italian tactician Claudio Ranieri.
He will now join up with former team-mate, France international N’Golo Kante in Chelsea’s Central midfield.
Drinkwater expressed his delighted to be a Chelsea player and said can’t wait to start playing for the Blues. He admitted it has been a long journey to the Bridge, but said he is very happy and that he is looking forward to helping West London club win more trophies.
Chelsea also signed Italy international defender Davide Zappacosta from Serie A side Torino in a dramatic transfer deadline day at the Bridge.
However, a transfer was not completed for Everton’s Ross Barkley, with the Englishman opting to return to Goodison Park after a successful medical at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte also failed to bring in Spaniard Fernando Llorente, with the striker opting to join City rivals Tottenham Hotspur instead.
