Premier League Champions Chelsea have agreed to terms with La Liga side Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Spain striker Diego Costa back to the La Liga club.
The transfer, which will be sealed later in January, is subject to Costa’s agreement of personal terms and medical examination.
Atletico Madrid said the 28-year-old striker, who left the Spanish Capital club to join the Blues back in 2014, would have a medical examination in the next couple of days.
The Spain international striker has not played for Chelsea this season and spent his summer break in his native land Brazil.
The Spaniard cannot be registered as an Atletico player for the club until January when the club’s transfer window embargo comes to an end. The two clubs face each other next week Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League.
The Brazil-born Spain forward joined the West London club from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of about £32million three years ago.
The prolific striker scored 58 goals in 120 matches for Conte’s team, including 20 in the English Premier League last campaign as the Blues won the title.
However, the striker has not featured for the West London club this season and spent most of August in Brazil. He was informed by text that he was not in manager Antonio Conte’s plans for this League season.
