At long last, Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of a major star this summer.
The premier league champions have completed the signing of Willy Caballero on a free transfer after he was released by Pep Guardiola at the end of last season.
The Argentine goalkeeper has become Antonio Conte’s first major signing of the summer window after weeks of speculations about a potential move.
‘I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success in the coming season,’ the shot-stopper told Chelsea’s website.
The 35-year-old ended last term as the first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester City after Claudio Bravo was dropped for his poor performances. And during his three years at the Etihad Stadium, Willy helped the club win the League Cup in 2016. And many Man City fans were surprised when Guardiola allowed him to leave.
Also speaking about the new signing, Chelsea’s technical director, Michael Emenalo revealed how delighted they are to have Caballero on board, noting that the goalkeeper knows how things works in the Premier League already, having been tried and tested at the top of the game at Man City.
Asmir Begovic moved to Bournemouth earlier on and Caballero will replace him as the second-choice behind Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge.
The premier league champions are now expected to follow up Willy’s arrival with the signing of Monaco star player Tiemoue Bakayoko.
