La Liga side Atletico Madrid are ready to finally seal a deal for Chelsea striker Diego Costa by the end of this week, as reported by Marca after the Premier League champions soften their stance on the sale of the Spanish international striker.
Diego Costa was told by Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte during the summer transfer window that his services were no longer required for the new season in West London, and as a result, the striker stayed back at his home in Brazil to continue his summer break.
The Brazil born Spaniard stated severally that Atletico Madrid were the only side he wanted to sign for, but a deal was not agreed given the La Liga club were under a transfer embargo at the time.
That transfer ban ends in January – meaning Atletico Madrid could officially sign their former striker at the beginning of 2018 – but the Blues had formerly been refusing to discuss a move until Diego Costa returned from home country Brazil and reported for training at Chelsea’s training base – Cobham, even while exiled from first team duties.
However, Chelsea have now decided to discuss figures with the Spanish club, and while the details of the transfer deal have yet to be revealed, it’s thought that they will eventually agree on a fee of about €60m – a club record for the Spanish club.
