Chelsea Star Defender on the brink of a January transfer

Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta has revealed his growing impatience at a lack of first-team action for the blues. This is coming less than a year after the Italian international defender was signed by former Blues manager Antonio Conte from Torino for a fee £23 million.

The 26-year-old defender announced his arrival in Chelsea with a stunning goal against Qarabag on his debut in the UEFA Champions League made only 12 Premier League starts under Conte and has remained unused since new man Sarri arrived at Stamford Bridge.

The player revealed that Inter Milan tried to sign him in the summer but he is quite happy in Chelsea, however, he admitted that he may be forced to leave Stamford Bridge to achieve his objective of getting enough game time to remain in reckoning for a shirt in the Italian National team: ‘The Azzuris’.

In an interview with Il Corriere dello sport, the defender said:

‘I want to try to give the coach food for thought, also because my objective is to remain in the reckoning for Italy. Inter sought me in the summer, but I am happy here,’

‘If I were not to play much, though, I’d think about [leaving]. Nobody likes being on the bench.’

‘I have three more years on my contract here and I only want to think about doing well with
Chelsea.’

“There’s a lot of competition here, but I want to win a place in the team. After that, it’s clear that if I didn’t find much room, I don’t think any player would like that.”

With Cesar Azpilicueta currently holding down the right-back position under Sarri and Nigeria’s Victor Moses also vying for the same spot in the team, it may not be long before Davide seeks a move away in search of regular first-team action.
