Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed Diego Costa is permitted to take beer after games to aid rehydration.
Costa was spotted with a beer following Chelsea hard-fought win over West brom last Sunday which provoked speculations about the act as it is widely believed that footballers are not supposed to be consuming alcohol during and after games but it appears Antonio Conte believes otherwise after stating he had no issues with players taking ‘one beer’ after games to help rehydration.
The Blues boss said: ‘[It is good] for rehydration, you can drink Coca-Cola or one beer,” he said. ‘It’s good for recovery. But one. Not a lot. It’s good. After you finish the game, quickly, not an hour after the end.
‘I have great professionals in my players. In this case, I don’t think a coach or a manager can say: ‘Do this’ or ‘Don’t do this’. I have great professionals and I know they will have the better attitude and behaviours in this situation.’
Costa has been in an electric form for the Blues and a beer may not anger the manager who has helped the 27-year-old striker back to form.
In related news, an independent regulatory commission have fined Chelsea and Manchester city £100,000 and £35,000 respectively for failing to control their players when they met at the Etihad.
