Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is having a feeling that former blues midfielder Nemanja Matic will not be sentimental towards him or his former teammates when they clash with the red devils on Sunday.
When Chelsea hosted Manchester United last season at Stamford Bridge, some Chelsea fans booed former manager Jose Mourinho for reasons best known to them, and Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic could face something similar to that when he play against his former club for the first time since he joined United this summer.
But his former manager at Chelsea believes Matic will only see him and his former Chelsea teammates as just enemies and ‘only opponents’.
“The most important [thing] is to play for your place [and] for your club [and] for your fans.” Conte said.
Matic made a late switch to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window in a deal worth £40 million, and Conte has admitted he did not want to sell the player in the first place.
The Serbia international has quickly settled to life at Old Trafford and is quickly evolving into one of the most important players in the club.
Chelsea will hope to bounce back to winning ways against Manchester United after losing 3-0 to Roma on Tuesday night in the Champions League.
