Reports claim that Chelsea are preparing to offer strike Diego Costa a new contract to reward him for his superb performance as well as ward off interest from his former club Atletico Madrid.
The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea are ready to offer Costa a lucrative contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge for a long time and also ward off interest from Atletico Madrid who have tried to bring him in the last three transfer windows.
Costa joined Chelsea two years ago from Atletico Madrid for about 32 million pounds and signed a deal worth around 150,000 pounds a week and in his debut season helped Chelsea to win the premier league title.
Last season was not a good one for Chelsea as they failed to defend their title and finished a dismal 10th position but Costa was still able to score 16 goals in all competitions.
The 28-year-old Spanish International has been in terrific form this season for the blues and has scored nine goals and provided three assists in eleven premier league matches to help the London club to the second position on the table, a point behind leaders Liverpool.
The moves comes as Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to support the plans of manager Antonio Conte especially after the Italian’s terrific start in English football.
Since suffering back to back defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal Conte has introduced the 3-4-3 system that has worked very well for Chelsea which has seen them go on a run of five straight premier league wins, scoring 16 goals in the process without conceding a goal and Costa has been a major part of the team’s success so far.
