According to new reports, the Manchester United board have informed manager Jose Mourinho of their decision to cut cost during the January transfer window, and that the Portuguese has to sell before he can buy new players when the window opens.
Mourinho has spent nothing less than £285million to bring new players to Old Trafford since he arrived the club last year.
The Portuguese has landed six major stars: Paul Pogba (from Juventus), Romelu Lukaku (from Everton), Victor Lindelof (from Benfica), Nemanja Matic (from Chelsea), Eric Bailly (from Villarreal), and Armenian star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
And although Zlatan Ibrahimovic was brought in last summer as a free man, the Swedish legend has also been handed massive wages.
Financial figures released last September showed the club’s wage bill has risen by 13.5% to £263.5 Million.
And BBC are now reporting that the Manchester United management have told their Portuguese manager that he can only buy more players if he generates some money through sales of players.
Luke Shaw is one of the players expected to be sold by Mourinho since it appears the Englishman is no longer important at Old Trafford.
In the past 1 year, the former Southampton defender has only made four Premier League starts due to a combination of injury and poor form, and he is likely to be shown the exit door anytime soon.
