Bournemouth Jeff Mostyn has stated that big European clubs are interested in signing Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, who is presently on a season-long loan deal to Bournemouth.
Mostyn, who has worked wonders with the South Coast club stated this in a chat with popular online news portal ‘Squawka’. In his words, he said: “He’s in the right place now and it’s great for us to have him for the season.”
“Who knows what will happen after that? I think Arsenal want to make him a new contract offer now and that shows not only is Arsene Wenger aware that he’s getting back to his best, but also that he’s attracting the interest of big European clubs.
“Whether we can sign him permanently is the million dollar question and probably the million dollar transfer. I think it might realistically be a pipe dream for us but who knows? Crazier things have happened in football.” he added.
Speaking further, the Bournemouth chairman pointed out that Wilshere being the main man has helped him settle well at Dean Court. He said: “A lot of people wondered whether Jack Wilshere or Jack the Lad would turn up in Bournemouth, but when you take people out of the bright lights of London, I think it’s huge.
“I think being the main man here rather than one of many stars has played a part. If you keep the ego and restrict it to football, there is nothing wrong with that. It’s when that ego is outside of football that there’s a problem – when people become offensive, disrespectful to people and it turns into arrogance.
“He’s come to a nice family club, he’s surrounded by good quality people, great coaches, his best friend Benik Afobe who is godfather to his children and their families are very close. I think it could not have been better R&R for him. He’s come away from a pressurised environment..
“I think our sports scientists are working very well with him and understand the demands on his body. Only Eddie Howe would pick up one of the finest young players in England and have the courage and commitment to ease him into the team, by starting him as a substitute and building up his confidence and stamina. Now he’s playing for 90 minutes and it’s the first time in over two years he’s played a full 90 minutes of football.
“We are still all pinching ourselves that we have a player of Jack’s quality. The difference that he has made has been has been brilliant. He’s inspired his team-mates and something else – which is not common knowledge – is that he has inspired our coaching staff as well.” he concluded.
