Bayern Secure Bundesliga Summit Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

German champions Bayern Munich have secured the top spot on the league table ahead of former recipients Borussia Dortmund following their thumping win over VFL Wolfsburg at home.

Five-time European champions Bayern Munich warmed up for their crucial Champions League last 16 second-leg clash with Liverpool by beating VFL Wolfsburg 6-0 with Robert Lewandowski getting a brace either side of the halftime interval.

Liverpool had earlier played a goalless draw with the Bavarian giants in the first leg of their tie at Anfield in February and the tie is delicately poised ahead of the second leg clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

Bayern Munich are the Bundesliga holders but they have played second fiddle to rivals Borussia Dortmund for the majority of the season until the end of Matchweek 25 in the top flight of German football.

Bayern Munich took the lead against visitors VFL Wolfsburg through Serge Gnabry for his 7th league goal of the season before he turned provider for the in-form Lewandowski for a 2-0 lead at halftime.

James Rodriguez, Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Mueller all scored in the second half to make it 5-0 for the home side before Lewandowski wrapped up the thumping 6-0 victory which was enough to take Bayern to the top ahead of Dortmund on goal difference.
