During the now-closed summer transfer window, it was very much obvious that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was very much keen on bringing in a new fullback to add more quality to his squad ahead of a busy campaign.
The premier league champions were linked with some talented stars, including Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – who was eventually signed by Liverpool before the final moment.
And a new revelation by GFFN (who cite L’Equipe) made it known that the premier league champions were on the brink of signing free-agent defender Bacary Sagna.
The former Arsenal defender has been without a club since his release from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the start of the summer.
The Frenchman was sent an offer by Brighton to come over to play for them – but he rejected the club and was all set for a move to Chelsea. However, it was said that Chelsea boss Conte changed his mind and completed a Deadline Day deal for Torino’s Davide Zappacosta instead.
It was also added that apart from Chelsea and Brighton, other clubs in other countries – including Bursaspor, Marseille, Sporting Lisbon and Besitkas – also made contact with the experienced player over a move.
Bacary has spent the last decade in England, playing for Arsenal and Manchester City. The France international still has a lot to offer and will add value to whichever club he will move into.
