According to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Monaco star Thomas Lemar opted to “stay in Monaco” instead of signing for the Gunners.
The North London club launched a late £92million offer for Thomas Lemar as the deadline slam shut, as they seek to replace the potential departure of Alexis Sanchez.
Alexis Sanchez was close to joining Premier League rival Manchester City, but the Gunners pulled the plug on Sanchez move and that of Lemar after reportedly concluding it was too late to seal a transfer for the latter.
Other reports suggest the Monaco star turned down a transfer to the Emirate Stadium, however, and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger looks to confirm as such when he declared that Arsenal could not seek an adequate replacement for the Chile international in time.
In a further interview with famous sports Channel beIN SPORT, Arsene Wenger spoke only briefly on the issue with Thomas Lemar.
“The player (Lemar) has chosen to stay (remain) in Monaco,” he said.
“You (the club) do not want to talk (speak) too much. You (the club) have to respect what happens (the situation) on the negotiation side.
I (Wenger) know we live in the era of transparency, but at some stage (point), to respect everybody, you (the club) have to not talk (discuss) too much about that.”
