Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez prefers to play on the wings despite being deployed as a central striker on several occasions this season.
The Chilean attacker has been at the centre of transfer speculation in recent time due to his refusal to pen a new deal with the Gunners, with suggestions that he has a strained relationship with Wenger as a result of his strange behaviour in recent matches.
Despite his antics, Sanchez has gone on to be the best player for Arsenal this season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. The 28-year-old has been deployed into a central striking role on several occasions this season and Wenger has now revealed he prefers staying on the wings in order to get the ball more.
The French boss said: ‘He played for a while centre-forward and has the focus needed to score,
‘He plays with an aggressive attitude. Fortunately, he’s a player who likes to touch the ball a lot.
‘He prefers to play wide than up front. He can get more of the ball. He has to keep the balance between providing and goalscoring.’
There are intense speculation over Sanchez’s future at the Emirates, with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea believed to be up on his list of potential clubs next summer.
