North London club Arsenal have finally been cleared to sign Thomas Lemar from the player’s current club Monaco. The club have been pursuing the Frenchman for weeks, and will finally be able to bring Lemar to the Emirates this week.
The Gunners had a previous offer of £30m turned down by Ligue 1 club Monaco, but have been given the green light to sign the France international after upping their offer.
According to the Sun, the Ligue 1 club were asking for £80m, but have since opted to let the youngster leave as Monaco continue to benefit from a buy low, sell high transfer policy. So far, the strategy has worked for the French club as the team secured the French league title last season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
If Lemar does arrive at Arsenal this summer as is expected now, the Gunners will have spent close to £100m in the summer transfer window. Arsenal has already signed former Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette and signed former Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.
While the Monaco star will be Arsenal’s third signing this summer, it seem the London club will keep unsettled striker Olivier Giroud at the Emirate. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has recently blocked Giroud’s transfer to Lyon, and the French coach stated Giroud wants to remain at the club. Germany international Mesut Ozil also seem likely to remain at the club and is close to sealing a new contract.
