Wojciech Szczesny has moved a step closer to sealing his move to Serie A champions Juventus after he was left out of the Gunner’s pre-season tour of Sydney Australia. Szczesny, 27, has been identified as the long-term replacement for Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon, who will retire from Professional football for both club and country after next year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Poland International goalkeeper enjoyed the best spell of his career so far in the Serie A at AS Roma, where he spent the past two seasons on loan. Roma has since declared they would love to sign the Pole permanently, but it seems the Turin outfit will win the race to sign him, with the promise of first-team football in a year’s time.
The Sun reports, the Pole has been permitted to remain at home during Arsenal’s pre-season, and this development will encourage his chances of completing his dream move to Juventus. Reports indicate that both Arsenal and Juventus have been discussing over the past month, and a deal is likely to be agreed in the coming days.
Szczesny has played over 180 matches during his time at Arsenal, but his last Premier League game came in the 2-0 loss to Southampton in January 2015 after which he was fined for smoking in the showers. With the goalkeeper likely to depart the club, Arsene Wenger is likely to urge second choice goalkeeper David Ospina to remain at the North London club as deputy to Petr Cech.
