According to Portuguese media reports, Premier League giants Arsenal have received a major transfer boost in their alleged chase of Gelson Martins after the wide man canceled his Sporting deal.
Arsenal target reportedly terminate deal
Portuguese publication Record, as cited by Metro, is claiming that the 23-year-old is among a couple of footballers to have terminated their deals with the Portuguese club, after a couple of the side’s stars were surprisingly attacked at their training base term.
Gelson Martins was one of Sporting’s top quality players last term, netting 13 goals and making 13 assists in 52 matches across all competitions.
The Gunner are thought to be interested in a swoop to land the Portugal international to this summer transfer window and their bid to land the player would have been boosted if the player has actually ended his deal with Sporting Lisbon.
Arsenal have two offers turned down
The same article states other sources as reporting that the North Londoners have already had two offers for the player turned down by Sporting, despite the player himself being interested in a transfer away.
Now, the same report states that Martins, Bruno Fernandes and William Carvalho have all decided to leave the team this summer window and have tabled their resignation letters.
Arsenal are thought to be in the transfer market for a couple of new recruits this summer window as newly appointed Spanish manager Unai Emery prepares for his debut campaign in charge.
