Arsenal defender Skhrodan Mustafi has been ruled out of action for three weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury in his side’s 3-1 win over Mark Hughes’ Stoke City at the Emirates Stadium.
Mustafi, who won the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil with the German national team, was replaced by Spanish right back Hector Bellerin, who was making his first team return from injury, in the first half of the previously mentioned league match.
Confirming the injury during his post-match press conference following the Stoke City game, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: “It’s a bad one. The minimum is 21 days.”
The 24-year old centre back, signed for a princely sum of £32m from Spanish La Liga outfit Valencia, will now miss the next three games for Arsenal. He will miss Tuesday’s away game against Everton at Goodison Park, the crucial clash against hosts Manchester City as well as the home game against Tony Pulis’ West Brom side.
The former Sampdoria and Everton star has been influential for Arsenal since his summer move thereby forging a formidable partnership with stand-in Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny and has not been involved in a losing side for his new club in 17 games in all competitions, which is a remarkable feat.
