Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis met with Mikel Arteta following his side’s loss to Manchester City in their opening game of the season.
The Gunners fell to a 2-0 defeat in the hands of the reigning Premier League leaders, in what was Unai Emery’s official first game at the club.
Reports in the Daily Telegraph claim that Gazidis spoke with Arteta after the game in order to ensure both parties were on good terms.
Mikel Arteta who was a sung hero during his days at the Emirates, was one of the coaches contacted to take over from Arsene Wenger during the summer, following his brilliant performance serving as assistant manager to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The Gunners opted to appoint Unai Emery who had just left his job at Paris Saint Germain, and reports have it that Gazidis only wanted to ensure there were ‘no hard feelings’ between Arteta and Arsenal, wishing him good luck in the Premier League with City.
Emery was criticised by some pundits and coaches for his approach during their 2-0 loss against Manchester City, after the Spaniard told his players to play out from the back against a high-pressing City.
Arsenal will hope to record their first win when they play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their next league fixture.
