Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is closing in on a return from a long-term injury in what would be a big boost for the Reds in their hunt for glory in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
It was revealed that the former Arsenal player could even feature for the Liverpool U23s for their game against Everton at Anfield on Monday.
If he does not play in the Merseyside Derby for the U23s, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to take part in Friday’s game against Derby County.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that the England international has been taking part in 70% of the team’s training.
Optimism over his return grew earlier this year after he was named in the Reds’ Champions League squad.
He had suffered the injury in the competition last season.
The 25-year-old sustained a serious knee injury in the Reds’ semifinal tie with Italian Serie A giants AS Roma in the Champions League last season.
