Manager of Manchester United Jose Mourinho has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association courtesy of the way he behaved as United drew 0-0 with Burnley on Saturday.
Mourinho was sent off during the match at Old Trafford and had to watch the second half from the stands after he complained that his team were not awarded a penalty by referee Mark Clattenburg.
Mourinho who was charged on Thursday because of comments he made concerning referee Anthony Taylor is accused of hurling abuses at the officials in the tunnel at half-time and has till Friday to respond to the charges.
Mourinho seemed upset when United did not get a penalty during the match when Matteo Darmian fell inside the Burnley box after being challenged by Jon Flanagan. The former Chelsea boss was then sent off and came out in the second half and was taken to the stands to have a seat. After sometime he went to seat in the director’s box. After the match, Mourinho still obviously upset and annoyed declined to speak to the media.
For the former charge, Mourinho had a deadline of 6pm on Monday to respond. The charge was given because he had stated that it would be “difficult” for Taylor who is based in Manchester to referee United’s game with Liverpool on 17 October. It is wrong for managers to speak about referees prior to matches.
It remains to be seen what the verdict of the FA will be but potential punishments for the Portuguese include a fine, warning, ban from the touchline or a ban from the stadium.
