16 goals in 16 matches: See why Arsenal like to play only on Sundays

The Gunners were 4-2 winners over their local rivals Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to a stunning goal from Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners were able to protect their 18-match unbeaten run and also extended it to 19 games last night as they thrashed Mauricio Pochetino’s men.

The former Borussia Dortmund’s striker gave the Gunners the lead in the early parts of the encounter when he converted from the spot after Jan Vertoghen was adjudged to have handled the ball in the 18-yard box.

However, the lead didn’t last for long as Eric Dier’s header went past Bernd Leno to restore parity.

After some moments of nerves and missed chances from both teams, the Lilywhites took the lead before halftime as Harry Kane converted the second spot-kick of the night.

During the halfway break, Unai Emery made some tactical changes to his team. The four-time Europa League winner brought Lacazette and Ramsey into the game.

His substitutions were the inspiration needed by the Gunners, who recorded a massive comeback to defeat their neighbours.

Aron Ramsey’s pinpoint pass to Aubameyang wasn’t wasted by the player who didn’t waste much time before placing a hot shot past helpless Hugo Lloris.

Torreira was equally on the scoresheet before the end of the fierce encounter. As much as the victory was a collective achievement, there is one player who deserves to be mentioned for his record-making display during the game.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the first Arsenal player to score 16 goals in his first 16 matches played on Sunday.

Since his move to the Emirates stadium during the last summer transfer window, the Gabonese star has had a great influence on the Gunners attacking capabilities and that was obviously seen, even to the blind, throughout the game.

As a result of his goalscoring qualities, especially on Sunday matches, it won’t be out of place to advise the Gunners to schedule their League games only for Sundays, though, that is impossible.

With yesterday’s goal, Aubameyang now has 10 goals to his name having played just 14 League matches.

The Gunners are fourth on the League table, a point above Tottenham who dropped a step down to the fifth position as result of the ‘painful’ defeat to their arch-rivals.

Up next for the Gunners is another great test of character as they travel to Old Trafford to take-on struggling Manchester United side, who came from a two-goal deficit to salvage a point against Southampton on Saturday.

Having performed brilliantly against Mauricio Pochetino’s team, many bookmakers are tipping the Gunners to pick up the maximum points despite playing away from home.
