Manchester United are reported to have begun negotiations over a deal that could see Paul Pogba return for around £100m.
Pogba, who is currently on international duty with host nation France at Euro 2016, has also been linked to Real Madrid with compatriot Zinedine Zidane thought to be a keen admirer of the 23-year-old.
Sky Sports report that although Juventus are adamant they want to hold onto their prized asset, a world record offer from United worth £100million is likely to be too much for them to resist.
Ed Woodward has entered into negotiations with Pogba’s representatives and with Juventus, who the midfielder joined in 2012 after leaving Old Trafford.
As well as a bid of around £100m, United are thought to be willing to offer a £300,000-a-week wage packet to the Frenchman.
The Manchester Evening News reports that United are confident of reaching an agreement with Juve, with Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, said to have promised to do his utmost to bring his client back to Old Trafford.
Since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have already landed Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the latter two of whom are also represented by Raiola.
It is understood Pogba would provide Mourinho with his final piece of business for the summer transfer window, but could still turn to his attention to PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi if he missed out on his French team-mate.
Woodward’s negotiations over any move will become easier after Pogba returns from Euro 2016, with France taking on Germany in the semi-finals on Thursday night.
