Why Keita and Shaqiri Have Limited Playing Time At Liverpool Revealed

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has explained why new signings Naby Keita and Xerdan Shaqiri have not had much playing time at the club this season.

Klopp and his players are chasing major honours in two competitions namely the Premier League and Champions League but Naby Keita and Xerdan Shaqiri have not played much as they would have liked since they joined the Reds last summer.

Guinean international midfielder Naby Keita signed for Liverpool last summer after the Reds splashed £53m to secure his transfer from German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig while Swiss national team talisman Xerdan Shaqiri became a Liverpool player shortly after Stoke City were relegated from the Premier League last summer.

Shaqiri and Stoke City suffered relegation with the Reds taking advantage of the situation by activating the £13m release clause in his then contract with the Potters to secure his transfer.

In his pre-match thoughts ahead of the Burnley game, Jurgen Klopp told reporters that Naby Keita and Xerdan Shaqiri have been victims of the depth in his Liverpool squad before adding that he considers several variables before making his selection for games.

Xerdan Shaqiri has made more impact at Liverpool than Naby Keita especially after his heroics against Manchester United.

The Swiss winger came off the bench to score twice and lead the Reds to a 3-1 home victory over Manchester United in their Premier League clash in December.
