Liverpool could reportedly challenge Premier League rivals Manchester United for Kalidou Koulibaly when the January transfer window reopens in two weeks time.
This is according to the publication from popular media outlet Hitc.
Senegalese international centre back Koulibaly plays his club football for Italian Serie A giants Napoli at the moment.
Liverpool have been thrown into a mini-crisis in defence following the injuries to two centre backs namely Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Both players have been ruled out until the New Year and the aforementioned publication believes that these injuries could force the Reds into the market when the transfer window reopens.
Kalidou Koulibaly could be an option for Liverpool but they will have to contend with Chelsea and Manchester United especially.
The 27-year-old was a summer target for Chelsea when Maurizio Sarri was appointed as the new manager.
Many football stakeholders expected him to follow Sarri to Chelsea from Napoli just like what happened to his former teammate Jorginho but nothing came out of the Chelsea transfer rumours.
Manchester United have emerged as favourites for his signature in recent weeks with reports claiming that Napoli have already turned down two Red Devils bid and that it will take over £100m to prise him away from his present club.
