Arsenal face stiff battle to sign Brazilian right-back

Emerson Palmieri

Arsenal are expected to face battle from Benfica in their bid to sign 19-year-old Atletico Mineiro defender Emerson.

The right full-back only joined Atletico Mineiro in April after his breakthrough to the first team for Ponte Preta in 2017. And he has gone straight into the team to impress as well as scoring his first goal in September out of his 19 appearances so far.

It has been reported that Arsenal have shown a big interest in the player who has progressed and matured in his game. No wonder he has been called to the Brazilian u20 national team on several occasions at his young age.

The North London club have been identified to be lacking options in the position and the recruit of Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus in the summer to add to Hector Bellerin seem to be short of an answer for the position.

However, a move for Emerson by the Gunners could mean a long term solution to the right full-back at the Emirates Stadium but there are suggestions that it will come easy with the keen interest from Benfica as well as French giants Paris St Germain.

Despite the interest from other suitors, the Gunners have been tipped to be favourites for the player.
