Arsenal legend Alan Smith has claimed that Alex Iwobi is now a transformed player who is having his impact on the team despite not being a regular.
The Nigerian youngster became the focus again after coming from the bench to becoming the game changer in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Watford at the Emirates Stadium.
It took the effort of the Super Eagles striker for Arsenal to break the stubborn Watford defence by creating an asset which led to the first goal in addition to helping in the build-up of the goal scored by Mesut Ozil.
Smith explained that Iwobi seems to be responding to the playing system under manager Unai Emery and is already fulfilling his potential as a player who has something different to offer to the team.
He noted that when Iwobi first emerged two years ago, he showed a glimpse of the player we should expect but that seems lost as at last season where the player failed to impress with his passes, movements and possession.
However, Smith maintains that with opportunity giving to the youth product in the Cup competitions, he has been living up to expectations.
The Arsenal legend said the 22-year-old now looks powerful and positive with and without the ball, prove that he is understanding his role.
Smith said Iwobi’s transformation is simply because he feels more confident under the new manager at Arsenal.
