Manchester United defender Luke Shaw could make his long-awaited comeback against Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup.
The England international defender has played three times for United’s U-23 team this season as he bids to recuperate from the injury he sustained against Swansea City at the tail end of the last campaign and left him watching the UEFA Europa League final from the stands in Stockholm on crutches.
But Luke Shaw did not feature in the Premier League 2 match against Chelsea on Monday, suggesting he will be included in Jose Mourinho’s team to face Burton at Old Trafford in the League cup.
A reduced Manchester United U-23 team drew 2-2 at Chelsea in Premier League 2 on Monday night, with forward James Wilson on the scoresheet.
Another youngster Scott McTominay, who was at Old Trafford for the Everton match on Sunday, was also missing from Ricky Sbragia’s team – hinting he is needed by first team manager Jose Mourinho for the next fixture.
The 20-year-old McTominay has been promoted to the senior team having signed from Valencia. He was given jersey number 39 this season; he could also get few minutes in the absence of the injured France international Paul Pogba.
While Pogba is out, defensive midfielders Nemanja Matic and Belgian Marouane Fellaini are vital for Jose Mourinho, and the first team door could, therefore, open for wonderkid McTominay.
