Arsenal battle to sign £32million rated Bundesliga midfielder

Leon Goretzka

As indicated by a report in the Express, Arsenal are confronting a fight with FC Barcelona over the signing of £32m-rated Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is being tipped to buy more in this transfer market once he offloads some of the players believed to be surplus to requirement.

A central midfielder is thought to be on the agenda as the gunners desperately need a top notch option to compete with Welshman Aaron Ramsey and Swiss Granit Xhaka this new season.

Spaniard Santi Cazorla is not reliable due to his Achilles injury problems, Englishman Jack Wilshere’s future at the North London club is in doubt while Egyptian Mohamed Elneny and Frenchman Francis Coquelin are not good enough to play regularly for a side competing for the Premier League title.

Arsenal have been linked with some midfielders this summer transfer window, but the Express are quoting a report from Transfer Market Web that states the Arsenal boss is eyeing a transfer for Goretza.

Goretza, 22, is a regular in the Germany national team and he’s been an indispensable player for his Bundesliga side Schalke since joining them back in 2013, but his future is now in serious doubt as he’s got just a year remaining on his current contract and has refused to extend his contract.

The publication suggests the German is available for around £32m this summer window, and I think that would be a superb piece of business for the Gunners if Arsenal could sign the youngster before the transfer window slams shuts.
