Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has heaped lots of praise on United star Antonio Valencia, tagging him as the best right back in world football today.
Valencia has enjoyed a pleasant campaign at right back where he continues demonstrating both power bombing forward and defensive prowess in equal measure.
The 31-year-old was eventually rewarded for his endeavours this week when he was given a one-year extension on his existing contract. This means he will remain at the club until at least 2018.
Mourinho speaking ahead of Man United’s visit to Stoke City on Saturday made nice comments on Valencia when asked about the extension. He said he do not think the extension is a reward and he isn’t looking at it from that perspective. “I just think he [Valencia] is the best right-back you can have There is no better right-back in football. He said
Mourinho additionally talked about a failed bid to sign the Ecuadorian during his time as Real Madrid manager. He explained that Valencia was not playing at right-back, and he wanted him to play at right-back.
“But Manchester United was intelligent and strong, and immediately stopped any feeling about any possibility. Valencia is playing better than ever. This season he is playing magnificently.” he added.
Mourinho has always placed emphasis on bustling, indefatigable and reliable full-backs during his managerial career. We can say Valencia fits that mode perfectly.
