Liverpool’s chances of getting maximum 3 points in Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth has been boosted with the return to action of forward Roberto Firmino and center back, Joel Matip who were both left out of the team’s Tuesday night’s 2-0 EFL Cup quarter final win over Leeds as a precaution.
Firmino picked up a minor calf injury in Liverpool’s league win over Sunderland last Saturday. He is, however, set to be named in the starting XI in Sunday’s match against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth who lost to Arsenal in their last league match.
The Brazilian’s return is a significant boost following the ankle injury picked up by his compatriot, Philippe Coutinho in the same match. The two Brazilians and Senegal’s Saido Mane have impressively led the line for Liverpool this season. And loss of the duo could have derailed Liverpool’s near-perfect start to the season. Coutinho is out until the new year.
The hitherto unheralded Joel Matip has equally had an impressive start to his Anfield career. This means his return is another piece of positive news for Jurgen Klopp as he leads his team in a title challenge.
