Ahead of the clash against Manchester United, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that defender Hector Bellerin will miss the match and will be out for about four weeks.
The right-back had to withdraw from the Spanish under 21 team during the last international break because of injury and returned to London and now the medical team of Arsenal has taken a look at Bellerin and assessed him.
Bellerin initially thought the injury was not a serious one and decided to make the trip to join up with the Spanish youngsters and while in the Spanish camp Bellerin discovered he was not able to fully take part in training with the rest of the team due to the injury.
The injury to Bellerin occurred in the last few seconds of Arsenal’s North London Derby match against arch rivals Tottenham after he was tackled by Danny Rose and was hit on the ankle.
At a press conference on Thursday, Arsene Wenger confirmed the injury and disclosed that he will be out for about a month.
He said “Hector is out for four weeks. He got injured in the last 10 seconds against Spurs on a very strong tackle from Danny Rose.”
This injury means that apart from Bellerin missing the match against Manchester United he is also set to miss other matches including the Champions league tie against Paris Saint Germain and an EFL cup quarter-final tie against Southampton.
This is major blow for Arsenal and in Bellerin’s absence Wenger could turn to fellow right-back Carl Jenkinson to fill in for the Spanish player.
