Since the beginning of the season, Mikel has been battling for his football life.
The Chelsea midfielder has been known as “Lord of the Bench” for a long while. In fact, close sources say he is no longer in favor with the team. He has tried to talk to the coach about being shut out of matches but so far, Antonio Conte has shut down talks.
Mikel Obi has yet to play a single Premier League match for the Stamford Bridge side since the beginning of the season.
However, Mikel is not going down without a fight. He has revealed that he has been working hard to play his way back into the team.
“Fighting every day for my place, like all the guys are. Focus, work hard,” the 2013 Europa League winner wrote on Twitter.
The root of the disagreement allegedly started from the Olympics. Conte is allegedly not happy with Mikel Obi for choosing to represent Nigeria at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where he helped the national Under-23 team win bronze (Nigeria’s only medal at the competition after all the drama associated with the event).
Mikel further said:
“I just have to be professional, work as hard as I can to try to get into the team. I work twice as hard every day and it’s because I appreciate this club.”
