Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted he is currently feeling the impact of Alvaro Morata’s move to Chelsea, and he regrets the player’s decision to leave his team during the past summer transfer window.
While he was still with the Champions League winners, he keeps struggling for regular game time in Zidane’s team, with the French manager preferring Karim Benzema to the Spaniard in his first team.
Morata pushed for a transfer over the summer, moving to Stamford Bridge so as to get more first-team football, and he is now settling down at the club with his impressive performances.
However, his former club have been hit by an injury to their top striker Karim Benzema, and the Frenchman’s injury leaves Zidane with quality few options up front.
Apart from Morata, Mariano Diaz also left for Lyon, which has left the La Liga champions very short up front as they begin the defence of their last season’s won trophies.
And Zidane, speaking on Tuesday ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with APOEL, admits his side is missing a number nine in the squad and that he regretted Morata’s departure to Chelsea.
The manager, however, understood that the player wanted to play more first-team football somewhere else, and his decision should be respected.
The Spain international has scored three goals already at Chelsea, and no Real Madrid player has been able to score more than two so far this season.
