Chelsea won their last premier league game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, and the Italian manager surprised us by handling Kurt Zouma a rare start in a premier league game.
However, the French defender was eventually subbed at half-time during the game, and the former Italy head coach has explained that the reason he substituted Kurt was due to tactical reasons.
Zouma started his first Premier League game in 14 months in the game where his side emerged victorious. He was replaced at the break by Nemanja Matic. Matic moved into the midfield while Cesar Azpilicueta went back to his regular role in the back three.
The Chelsea manager Antonio Conte explained that though the Frenchman played a really good game, the substitution was a tactical one.
He explained further that his side were suffering a lot In the first half at the midfield and the opponents were finding spaces between their lines. So in the attempt to reinforce his midfield, he had to introduce Matic and get Cesar into his normal number 3 position while Pedro play as wing-back.
He said it was more offensive because the wing-backs are more of being wingers than being defenders.
He added that in the second half, his side had more balance and did not give the opponents any chances to score, so were able to controlled the game quite well.
Few hours ago, former Arsenal Captain Cesc Fabregas picked Zouma as the most skillful player in Chelsea.
