Why Arsenal result under Emery is understandable, says pundit

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has defended the performance Arsenal’s performance under Unai Emery.

According to him, the Spanish manager should not be blamed as a struggling Gunners was expected because of the way his predecessor, Arsene Wenger left the team.

Emery took over from Wenger in the summer after the Frenchman leaving after 22 years at the helm.

With just three points in three games, Redknapp said Unai has done well.

Redknapp wrote in his Sky Sports Column

“I don’t think any manager could [get this team into the top four], not at the moment. I just think it is going to take time.

He, however, advised the former PSG manager to experiment with starting Aubameyang and Lacazette up top together in subsequent games to help increase the force up front.

The ex-Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp thinks that Emery should mix up and be more subtle in his approach in enforcing his pressing tactics on the team to help give a blend.

According to him, the team needs to patiently learn the tactics and adapt before the desired result could be achieved.

He noted that situation is not peculiar to Emery alone but any manager who in his position will have to go through the same process.

The ability of the Spanish coach has never been a doubt for Redknapp but his ability to handle the current situation at Arsenal remains unknown.

Meanwhile, the future of Emery would be subject to subsequent results at the club in coming weeks.
