From all indications, premier league champions Chelsea are set to defend their title this season – even though they are not currently among the top four on the league table.
Despite the challenges many clubs encountered this year in the summer transfer window, the Stamford Bridge club were still able to get some reasonable deals done. And now that the transfer window has been slammed shut, there are revelations that the Blues tried to sign some other players in the course of the window – but they were unable to get the deals done for one reason or another.
One of the players the defending champions tried bringing into Stamford Bridge this summer is Hamburg striker Jann-Fiete Arp.
The young teenager scored 28 times in 25 matches for the club’s youth sides last term and also scored seven goals at the European Under-17 Championships earlier on in the summer.
The west Londoners are said to have scouted the 17-year-old for much of this year and are believed to have submitted a lucrative offer to bring him down to England. Unfortunately, a deal was not agreed and he is still in Germany.
Arp signed a new deal with Hamburg and he’s aiming at breaking into their first-team setup in the near future.
But it is likely that Chelsea will continue to keep tabs on his progress and will try persuading him to Stamford Bridge.
