Chelsea stars take to the skies as Blues choose to fly to Leicester ahead of Saturday’s clash… despite only a 100-mile trip

Chelsea players enjoyed a short flight on Friday as the Premier League Champions took the unusual step of travelling to their away match at Leicester via airplane.

Chelsea stars Victor Moses, Eden Hazard, Michy Batshuayi, and others posed for pictures on board the chartered plane as the team got set for take-off.

Spain international Marcos Alonso joked around with goalkeeper Willy Caballero on the runway while the team shared a joke at Victor Moses’ expense.

The Blues have chosen to fly to the game – despite only 102 miles between Chelsea ground Stamford Bridge and the Leicester home – King Power Stadium.

A journey by road from Chelsea to Leicester using the usual M1 motorway will take just two hours and about 44 minutes when avoiding traffic.

Flights for away games are always reserved for longer trips, such as from West London to Newcastle, but complications in travel plans mean squads sometimes fly shorter distances.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was made to defend his team’s decision to charter a jet for an away match at Norwich back in 2012 after it was tagged as ‘absurd’ by Green campaigners.

England international Danny Drinkwater will be facing his former Leicester colleagues, just about a week after leaving the King Power Stadium for Stamford Bridge for £30million on transfer deadline day.
