Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning an overhaul of his side’s defensive setup due to the ongoing struggles the Red Devils have faced in the English Premier League (EPL) this season.
Mourinho built his reputation as one of the best managers of the last decade with the aid of defensive solidity however that has been missing in his Manchester United side this season with just four clean sheets in 13 league games. In addition to this, the 20-time European champions have conceded 15 goals, which is the worst defensive record of any side in the top 6.
A lack of defensive solidity as highlighted with the stats above has led to a big points gap from the leading pack. Manchester United (20 points from 13 games) are a massive 11 points behind league leaders Chelsea (31 points from 13 games) and 8 points (28 points from 13 games) behind 4th-placed Arsenal in the battle for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Taking their poor run of results in the league this season into consideration, the former FC Porto, Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager is reportedly fed up with his team’s defensive lapses and is ready to bring in reinforcements ably supported by the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed woodward, who is ready to release funds to support his manager.
