Trouble for Arsenal boss as club shareholder sends message to him after City loss

Piers Morgan

Arsenal shareholder and media personality Piers Morgan has taken to the internet to blast club manager Arsene Wenger’s decision not to feature record signing Alexandre Lacazette from the start against rivals Manchester City in the English Premier League on Sunday as the North Londoners lost 3-1 at The Etihad Stadium.

The France international forward was called upon in the second half to score, but it wasn’t enough for the Gunners as they ended up losing to the runaway league leaders.

Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne handed Manchester City the lead in the first stanza with a cool finish, and Argentine forward Sergio Kun Aguero doubled the scoreline after half-time when he scored from the spot.

Lacazette scored half the deficit for Arsenal shortly after, but Brazilian Gabriel Jesus scored a third for Pep’s team when he connected with David Silva pass in the box.

Piers Morgan has been one of Arsene Wenger’s critics in recent seasons and has repeatedly called for the tactician to depart the Emirates Stadium.

He was clearly angry by Arsene Wenger’s decision to leave Lacazette on the bench at The Etihad Stadium after his brilliant finish.

After Alex Lacazette scored, Piers Morgan tweeted: “2-1. Excellent goal by [Alexander] Lacazette. Why didn’t he [Lacazatte] start??? #MCFCvAFC.”

In a series of other tweets, he added: “Our midfield’s being completely run over. From Vieira/Petit to Ramsey/Xhaka – sums up Wenger’s managerial decline.”

He further tweeted: “REMINDER: I [Piers Morgan] was told on good authority that [Pep] Guardiola wanted to join Arsenal with Thierry Henry as assistant – but Arsene Wenger refused to leave.”

Morgan disclosed back in May 2015 that he owned £160,000 shares in the club and that he has four years tickets at the club.

The Gunner return to League duty after next weekend’s international break with a crucial home tie against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at The Emirates Stadium on November 18.

The loss left the team sixth in the English Premier League log after 11 matches of the new League season.
