Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has disclosed that he is ready for a potential hostile reception at Old Trafford ahead of the league clash with hosts Manchester United.
The England international had accused United’s Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera of elbowing him during last month’s 2-2 draw between England and Spain at the Wembley Stadium with the former Sporting Lisbon star telling Herrera afterwards that: “I’ll see you soon.”
This attracted a lot of attention and abuse from United towards Dier most especially on social media. Speaking ahead of the huge clash on Sunday evening, Dier said: “What I said was taken a bit out of context. I was just joking.”
“It’s a shame there wasn’t a camera there because a video could have seen how I said it. Some times jokes come across wrong when written down.”
He also said confusion arose after the pair were both talking to journalists later.
The Tottenham defender stated further that: “He (Herrarra) was further along the line speaking to the media, and I said ‘I’m sure I’ll see you soon,’ pointing at him.
“It’s been taken the wrong way, but it’s okay, I don’t mind.” he concluded.
Eric Dier would be hoping his side can continue their recent run of two straight wins in all competitions when they face Jose Mourinho’s side.
