Liverpool football club have confirmed the departure of 25-year-old German goalkeeper Loris Karius to Turkish giants Besiktas on a two and a half year loan deal.
The much-expected move comes after the Reds coughed out a massive £65 million for the services of former Roma shot stopper Alisson Becker. The fee which is a world record for a goalkeeper practically ensured that Karius’s time in between the sticks for the Merseyside club had practically come to an end.
25-year-old Karius who was in goal for Liverpool in last season’s final of the UEFA Champions League against Spanish giants Real Madrid where they lost 3-1. He was responsible for the first and third goals of Real Madrid on a night he would never ever forget. Although it was later claimed that the goalkeeper had suffered a concussion after an earlier collision during the match which might have resulted in his disillusionment during the game, his career was all but over in Anfield after that woeful performance.
The loan deal with the Turkish Super-Lig team will run through the remainder of 2018/19 and the whole of 2019/20 league season and will perhaps help the German in rebuilding his career.
A statement on the official Liverpool football club website wished the former Mainz goalkeeper the best of luck during his loan spell.
Karius made a total number of 49 appearances for the current Premier League leaders since his arrival from Mainz in 2016.
