Thomas Meunier – I almost joined Chelsea on summer transfer deadline day

Thomas Meunier

Thomas Meunier has revealed French Ligue 1 giant Paris Saint-Germain turned down a deadline-day offer from Premier League Champions  Chelsea for his services.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had to cope with a frustrating summer window despite signing a number of huge-money players such as striker Alvaro Morata, midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, England midfielder Danny Drinkwater and defender Antonio Rudiger.

The Italian tactician was thwarted in the chase of his first-choice player for the right wing – Juventus right wing-back Alex Sandro – and had to sign Davide Zappacosta from Torino eventually, minutes before the window was slammed shut.

Belgian international Meunier signed for Paris Saint Germain in the summer window of 2016, but manager Unai Emery brought in Brazil full-back Dani Alves to his team for the 2017-18 campaign to strengthen the Ligue 1side’s chances of eventually winning the UEFA Champions League.

The Belgium international full-back – who earlier in the month disclosed he had rejected a transfer to Chelsea to become the French giant’s first-choice right-back – informed Sky Sports on Friday evening that PSG turned down an offer from the West London club despite Dani Alves’ arrival.

When questioned if he wanted to join Chelsea, Meunier answered he didn’t really think about the move because PSG called him and informed him he will not move at all so he should not think about Chelsea or any other interested club.
